One of my favorite coffee drinks is Vietnamese coffee. I think it's the sweetened condensed milk. When I was growing up, my parents were SUPER strict about not letting us eat sweets (that's an understatement). My aunt used to sneak in sweetened condensed milk and would have it in an opaque cup in the fridge. I don't know what she did with it but I remember her letting me have a little taste and it was like liquid heaven! Maybe it's nostalgia, maybe it's just that freakin good.... either way I had to figure out a way to make it at home.
This is not the traditional Vietnamese coffee, more like Vietnamese style coffee. I can't be bothered with cleaning the little coffee filter in my Keurig to use Cafe du Monde coffee so I found the next best thing in a K-Cup. Convenience y'all.
If you want to make traditional Vietnamese coffee, there are tons and tons of info on that elsewhere, this is a recipe for coffee reminiscent of Vietnamese coffee.
What You'll Need:
- Keurig (I have a 2.0 K250)
- 1 dark roast K-Cup (I'm using Cafe Bustelo)
- Sweetened condensed milk
- Ice
- Cute paper straw
- Cute paper straw
I set my Keurig to brew a 6 oz cup of joe and set it to strong. If you don't have this option, I would suggest brewing at the smallest size to get that strong taste.
Once your coffee is done brewing, take a heaping spoonful of sweetened condensed milk and mix it with the coffee. The beauty of making this at home is you can make it as sweet and milky as you like. I prefer my coffee more on the light side, this way I don't have to wait for the ice to dilute my coffee a touch (I'm not a dark roast fan normally). If you want the traditional taste, make yours more on the tan side.
Fill your cup with ice or drink it hot like I have been this fall/winter season (you may have seen me do this on my recent vlog). Cheers y'all!
Hi Stephie! Thanks for sharing how you make Vietnamese style coffee with your Keurig =) I think it looks delicious, even though it's freezing here...I've never tried the Cafe Bustelo, but I'm up for trying a new drink any time! I am so curious about this 2.0 model, especially with the strong feature. And I still need to get with the mason jar trend :X hehe I hope you have an amazing holiday if I don't chat with ya on social media/yt before then!
ReplyDeleteHappy holidays to you too Lexi and to your family :) This is definitely my favorite K-Cup for a dark roast. I got my 2.0 model from QVC... I'm a big QVC buyer :)
